Dr. Beals is recognized as one of the leading plastic surgeons specializing in craniofacial deformities in Arizona as well as the United States.

He founded the Craniofacial Foundation of Arizona and the Barrow Craniofacial Center (previously Southwest Craniofacial Center) where he is currently the Director. He also developed the Heads Up Baby® educational program material which promotes awareness and early intervention for deformational plagiocephaly or misshapen heads.  Dr. Beals is a founding member of the American Society of Craniofacial Surgery and a member of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery.

Craniofacial reconstructive surgery is performed to correct skeletal abnormalities of the skull and facial bones often caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, traumas, infections, tumors or other diseases. Craniofacial reconstructive surgery is generally performed to improve function, but may also be done to achieve a desired appearance. Craniofacial surgery is customarily covered by most health insurance policies, although coverage for specific procedures and levels of coverage may vary greatly.
