Dr. Beals and his staff have seen non-surgical cosmetic procedures rise in popularity considerably over the past few years. Injectable treatments are the most popular type of these procedures. These types of “lunchtime” treatments can give patients a refreshed and rejuvenated look at a minimal cost, with little to no downtime.
Types Of Injectables
The Stephen P Beals, Skin and Laser Center provides services for injectables, fillers, and sclerotherapy. These three treatments are administered by our highly trained and experienced Registered Nurse.
Botox Cosmetic Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein that has been used therapeutically for over 15 years to treat a variety of medical conditions. Since 2002 it has been FDA-approved for cosmetic treatments and is the most popular non-surgical facial treatment in the U.S. It is highly effective and safe. As we age, the skin becomes less elastic and repeated facial expressions such as frowning and smiling can result in fine lines and wrinkles. Many patients elect to use Botox to help soften and smooth these lines, as well as use it as a wrinkle-preventive. Studies have also supported that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches.
Botox works very differently than wrinkle fillers. Botox blocks the nerve impulses that cause wrinkle-causing facial muscle contraction. By preventing the contraction and relaxing the muscle, you also prevent the wrinkle that comes from it. The most common treatment areas include:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crows’ feet area around the eyes
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Low or heavy eyebrows (brow lift)
- Unbalanced brows
- Lines or wrinkles under the eyes
- Vertical lip lines
- “Bunny” lines on the nose
- Chin crunch (unconscious contraction of chin muscles)
- Neck bands (platysma)
Botox is one of the simplest procedures with one of the most dramatic responses. Botox treatment takes just minutes and no anesthesia is required, but if you are pain sensitive, we would be happy to apply topical numbing. Following treatment, you may resume normal activities and reapply makeup as needed. You should expect to see immediate results within 2-7 days and results typically last 3-4 months. Only licensed and trained healthcare professionals have the experience necessary to administer Botox. Dr. Beals’ registered nurses have many years of injection experience and only use authentic Botox at the full manufacturer recommended strength. This insures your safety and the results you expect. - Sculptra Aesthetic
Juvederm and Restylane are injectable dermal fillers used to replace volume and fill in facial lines and wrinkles and for lip augmentation. This soft, clear gel is formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in many parts of the body for hydration, moisturizing and cushioning. As we age, our skin changes and reduces production of HA .Over time, this results in facial wrinkles and folds, like those “parentheses” lines around your mouth. HA fillers are used to add volume and smooth the skin, while keeping the skin hydrated by attracting water molecules. The results are soft, subtle, and very natural. You’ll see the difference immediately!
The most common treatment areas include:
- Lines from the nose to the outer edges of the mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Lines from the corner of the mouth downwards (“marionette lines”)
- Smile lines
- Adding fullness, volume, shape or definition to the lips (lip augmentation)
- Upper and lower lip lines (“puckering” or lipstick “bleed” lines)
- Softening scars and miscellaneous lines on cheeks, chin, forehead
- Enhancing volume and contour of cheeks
- Smoothing under-eye hollows
HA fillers are non-animal products, so there are limited, if any risks of adverse or allergic reactions. HA fillers’ results last 8-12 months, depending on the product used, volume injected, area treated, and patient skin type. After that, the product gradually degrades and is absorbed by your body. Treatments are quick and easy and fit well into a busy lifestyle. You may experience some redness and swelling in the treatment area, but you can usually resume regular activities, such as going back to work, right away.
Sculptra Aesthetic is a dermal filler that works differently than the HA fillers. It is a collagen stimulating filler, meaning, patients do not see a change from the product itself, but rather from the increased collagen that is produced gradually over time after the product has been placed. Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful-looking and smooth. As we age, our body’s collagen production decreases, and we may begin to see wrinkles. Sculptra is composed of Poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material naturally absorbed into the body that works to replace lost collagen. Sculptra is best used to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds, or for those patients that need deep volume. Sculptra gradually and subtly works over several months, in a series of about 3 treatments, unlike the HA fillers with immediate results. However, these results may last up to 2 years, unlike the shorter-lasting HA fillers. Treatments are quick and easy and fit well into a busy lifestyle. You may experience some redness and swelling in the treatment area, but you can usually resume regular activities, such as going back to work, right away.
Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment used to minimize the appearance of clusters of small veins, or “spider veins,” of the legs. It is performed by injecting a saline solution into veins which causes them to collapse and fade from view. Multiple treatments are necessary for optimal results. Our Skin and Laser center in Paradise Valley provides laser leg vein treatments as well, as the two modalities often work well in combination. Sclerotherapy treatments are performed by one of our experienced registered nurses.
