Cherry Angioma: Skin Lesion or Delicious Dessert?
As we move into our 20s and 30s, our skin begins to show the effects of living. Genetic skin type (choose your parents well!), choice of diet, level of alcohol consumption, environment in which we live and work, amount of sun exposure, overall health, and skincare routine are several factors that are in play-especially after the age of 30 years and into our 40s, 50s and beyond.
We will notice changes in our skin texture and smoothness; we may develop small red or brown spots on our bodies; and who doesn’t notice the small age lines on lips, eyes, foreheads, and neck where there were none in our formative years? One common occurrence is those deep red spots that can develop and can vary in size from a slight speck to the diameter of a peppercorn. A “Cherry Angioma” sounds like a delicious dessert treat, but medically it is defined as a harmless skin growth that is red or purple and usually found on a person’s torso. It forms from dilated capillaries on the surface of our skin. Genetics, age, chemicals, and hormone changes can trigger them to form, especially in certain climates.

Both choices take only seconds and are relatively painless, feeling like a small pinch. The Lamprobe uses high-frequency radio wave current and will vaporize the affected blood vessels, while Cutera is a laser used to get the same effect. Your aesthetician will choose the modality that is best for your treatment based on your specific skin type and location of the angioma.
