What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a popular cosmetic procedure that can help improve the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids. At the office of Stephen Beals, MD in Paradise Valley, AZ, we offer a range of blepharoplasty options to help our patients achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

The blepharoplasty procedure typically begins with the administration of local anesthesia and/or sedation to ensure the patient's comfort throughout the procedure. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Beals will carefully make incisions in the natural creases of the eyelids, which helps to conceal any scarring.

For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Beals will remove excess skin and fat tissue from the eyelids to create a more open and refreshed appearance. For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Beals may remove or reposition excess fat and tissue to reduce the appearance of bags or puffiness under the eyes.

After the necessary tissue has been removed or repositioned, Dr. Beals will carefully close the incisions with sutures. In some cases, he may also use tissue glue to help reduce scarring and promote faster healing.

Patients will meet with the nurse and go over specific instructions on how to care for the treated area and what to expect during the recovery process prior to the procedure. This may include using cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising, and avoiding certain activities or medications that may interfere with healing.

The results of a blepharoplasty can be long-lasting and may even improve over time as the tissues continue to settle into their new position.

If you are considering blepharoplasty, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Beals to learn more about the procedure and how it can help you achieve your desired appearance. Our office is committed to providing the highest quality care and ensuring a comfortable and positive experience for each of our patients. Schedule a blepharoplasty consult today.
